Meet Nichole Jefferson, President of Home Dialyzors United, and a kidney patient who had her Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (EGFR) numbers hinder her from getting on the transplant list. The current system rates African Americans differently than other races when it comes to kidney health. Kidney patients are measured by EGFR ratings, which then determines when they might get added to a transplant list. Due to differences in the way black patients are rated many are not put on the transplant list in time. Nephrologist Dr. Amaka Eneanya joins to discuss why African Americans are rated differently.
