Lisa Calistano

Dialyzor of the Month:
April 2022

Lisa started dialysis in 1983 at the age of 13. She’s had several transplants but for an unknown anomaly in the blood they do not last more than 6 months. During her lifetime she has tried every dialysis modality: CAPD, in center hemodialysis, in center nocturnal and home hemodialysis and several transplants.

Lisa enjoys a great sense of independence with home dialysis. She feels in charge of her life. The flexibility of doing dialysis at home means she does not have to do her treatments at the same time every day. “I can choose 8 o’clock in the morning or 8 o’clock in the evening. As long as I get my number of treatments in it doesn’t matter what time,” says Lisa.

For Lisa doing dialysis in the comforts of your home is the BEST option! “I DO NOT miss driving in all sorts of weather to and from dialysis. No thank you,” says Lisa. She LOVES to travel and has been to California, Florida, Oregon, Mexico, and Europe, on cruises to Alaska and Hawaii with her NxStage dialysis machine. She is looking to visit Africa next.

This this past summer she returned to Denmark to visit family after many years away.  “I ordered my supplies to be delivered to the place where we stayed. I packed up my machine and personal supplies like tape, gauze, etc..,  and off we went. It was an amazing trip. It had been 21 years since I had been back to Denmark, my family’s homeland. We did so much in the time we were there, and I dragged the machine all over Denmark.

I look forward to completing many more vacations with my trusty NxStage machine in tow! Africa here I come!"
